What the commission costs you
Put in one month of delivery sales. See the dollars each rate takes, per month and per year, and who ends up holding the tip money.
DoorDash's published delivery commission, and TipAfter's 8%. This compares delivery only. DoorDash's pickup commission is 6% on all three plans, which is lower than TipAfter's 8% — that is not the comparison below, so do not read these numbers as pickup. TipAfter charges the same 8% whether the customer picks up or you deliver with your own driver.
The four options
What is not in these numbers
- It is delivery only. DoorDash charges 6% on pickup on all three plans. TipAfter charges 8% on pickup too. Pickup is where DoorDash is cheaper, and this calculator does not show it.
- Commission base. DoorDash's published commission is a percentage of the order's food subtotal. TipAfter's 8% is on menu items only — nothing on tax, delivery fees or tips, with card fees inside the 8%.
- Free trials and promos are excluded. DoorDash waives commission for 7 days on Basic and 30 days on Plus and Premier. Promotions, intro offers, DashPass adjustments and per-city differences are all out.
- No card fees, tax, delivery fees or tips are included in either commission figure. On TipAfter the 8% already covers card processing; on DoorDash, their page says the commission covers credit card processing.
- This is arithmetic, not a forecast. It says what each rate takes from a dollar of sales you already have. It says nothing about how many orders you will get, because DoorDash brings demand and TipAfter does not.
Figures use DoorDash's published delivery commission rates as of November 2026 and TipAfter's 8% menu-item fee; tax, delivery fees and tips are excluded from commission on TipAfter; actual DoorDash fees vary by plan and agreement.
