TipAfter vs DoorDash, for restaurant owners
Two very different things, priced two different ways. Here is the honest version of the comparison, including the parts where DoorDash wins.
Where TipAfter is today: TipAfter is in a pilot. Payments on the public site run in demo mode — no real money moves. Live Stripe payouts come after counsel review. DoorDash is a nationwide marketplace that is already running; TipAfter is not that yet, and nothing on this page claims otherwise.
TipAfter takes 8% of menu items with card fees included and takes nothing from tips. DoorDash's published delivery commission is 15%, 25% or 30% depending on your plan, and 6% on pickup. Both of those numbers are real. What decides which one is right for you is not the percentage — it is whether you need strangers to find you tonight.
Side by side
| TipAfter | DoorDash Basic | DoorDash Plus | DoorDash Premier | |
|---|---|---|---|---|
| Delivery commission | 8% of menu items, card fees included. Nothing on tax, delivery fees or tips. | 15% | 25% | 30% |
| Pickup commission | 8% of menu items — the same rate. Pickup is the product. | 6% | 6% | 6% |
| Who delivers | Nobody from TipAfter. The customer picks up at your counter. Delivery is an optional add-on run by your own drivers, and delivery with real payments is not live yet. | A Dasher from DoorDash's network picks up and delivers. That is the core of their product. | ||
| Who gets the tip | 100% to your staff on pickup, or to your driver on delivery. TipAfter takes 0% of every tip. | On delivery orders, the tip goes to the Dasher, not your kitchen staff. | ||
| When the customer tips | After pickup or delivery. There is no tip screen at checkout, so the tip follows the service. | With the order. DoorDash's merchant page describes commission and payout; it does not describe a tip step after the food is handed over. | ||
| Monthly fee | $0 | $0 | $0 | $0 |
| Contract | None. No setup fee, no cancellation fee. | No contract. Their page says you can upgrade, downgrade or stop anytime. | ||
| Commission-free trial | None. The 8% applies from your first order. | 0% for 7 days | 0% for 30 days | 0% for 30 days |
| Setup time | About two minutes to sign up on your phone. During the pilot we help you load your first menu, and your listing goes live after we review it. | Their page says on average 40% of small-business restaurants onboard the same day they sign up, and a tablet arrives within 7 days if you do not have one. | ||

What DoorDash does better
If you skip this section, the rest of the page is just advertising. Here is the case against us.
They bring customers you do not have
DoorDash reports over 56 million monthly active users and more than 615,000 partnered restaurants and grocery markets. Their own 2025 data says over 55% of consumer orders at new restaurants came from browsing, not from searching for that restaurant by name. Nobody is browsing TipAfter. A new restaurant on TipAfter gets the customers who already know it, and that is the whole list.
They deliver the food
A Dasher network means delivery without hiring, insuring, scheduling or paying your own drivers. They also run quality standards and ratings on those drivers. TipAfter has no gig drivers at all, and delivery with real money is not live.
They get you live fast
Same-day onboarding for about 40% of small restaurants, a tablet inside 7 days, menu and photos pulled automatically, and an onboarding contact who reaches out within 24 hours. That is a real operations machine. TipAfter is a small pilot team.
They plug into the register you already run
DoorDash connects to POS systems including Toast and Square, and gives you a merchant portal to pause orders, set separate delivery hours and price delivery differently. TipAfter's register connections are still mock or partner-application stage, and the pilot runs on the TipAfter kitchen screen.
They answer the phone at 3 a.m.
24/7 human support is on their merchant page. TipAfter is a two-person-scale operation with an email address and a phone number during business hours.
They are already on the customer's phone
No install, no explanation, no “what is TipAfter?” at the counter. They will also waive commission for 7 days on Basic or 30 days on Plus and Premier while you try it.
If what you need this month is more people who have never heard of you, DoorDash is built for exactly that and TipAfter is not.
What TipAfter does differently
8% of menu items, and that is the whole fee
Card processing is inside the 8%. Nothing is charged on sales tax, on delivery fees or on tips. If an order is refunded, the matching fee is refunded too. There is no monthly fee, no setup fee and no contract.
The tip goes to the people who did the work
100% of every tip goes to your staff tip pool on pickup, or to your driver on delivery. TipAfter takes 0%. Owners and managers do not keep it, and it never touches the register.
The customer tips after the food, not before it
There is no tip screen at checkout. The customer pays for the food, gets it, and then decides. That is the entire product idea, and it is the one thing on this page you cannot get from a marketplace.
Your own link, your own customer
Every restaurant gets a link like tipafter.com/r/your-restaurant for the Google listing, the website, receipts and table cards. Regulars order from you directly instead of from an app that also lists the place down the road.
The 8% against their 6% pickup rate
On pickup, DoorDash's published commission is 6%. That is lower than TipAfter's 8%. You should hear that from us rather than work it out after you sign.
The 8% buys a post-service tip, a tip that goes entirely to your staff, and an ordering link that is yours. Whether that is worth the two extra percent on pickup is your call, not ours to make.
Run it on your own numbers
The commission calculator takes one month of your sales and shows what each rate costs you in dollars, per month and per year, plus how much tip money is on the table and who ends up with it.
Questions worth asking before you pick either one
- Where will the orders actually come from? If the answer is “people who already know us”, you do not need to pay a marketplace for discovery.
- Who gets the tip? Ask this in writing. On a delivery order it is the difference between your line cook and a stranger in a car.
- What is the commission charged on? Food only, or food plus tax plus delivery fee plus tip? The rate is not the whole story; the base is.
- What happens at refund time? Ask whether the commission comes back and who eats the card fee.
- Can you leave? Both say no contract. Get it in writing anyway.
Where these numbers come from
- DoorDash commission rates, free trial lengths, $0 monthly and signup fees, no-contract terms, the same-day onboarding figure, the 7-day tablet, the POS connections, the 24/7 support and the merchant-portal controls are all from DoorDash's own merchant page, How DoorDash Marketplace works for restaurants (opens in a new tab), checked November 1, 2026. Their rates can change and can differ by city or by agreement.
- The 56 million monthly active users and 615,000+ partnered restaurants and grocery markets are DoorDash's own reported figures, as stated on that page for the end of 2025.
- The browsing figure is DoorDash's: over 55% of consumer orders at new restaurants on their platform came from browsing rather than a search for a specific restaurant, based on their internal data from January to December 2025. It is their statistic about their marketplace, not a claim about TipAfter.
- TipAfter's 8% of menu items, card fees included, 0% of tips, $0 setup and no contract are TipAfter's own published terms. See Pricing and the restaurant guide.
- Pickup and delivery tips: DoorDash pays delivery tips to the Dasher. TipAfter pays 100% of tips to the restaurant's staff or the restaurant's own driver.
